Catching Up & Staying In Touch...
In the last couple of weeks, we have had an opportunity to do just that, and meet some new folks besides.
When we came to Casa Grande, we met Bob and Jeanine from Wisconsin. Since they took time for a cocktail hour, we joined them four out of five nights and enjoyed finding out about their life. She is a cancer survivor and they both are good story tellers! Hope our paths cross again down the road.
Since we are in the vicinity where Walkers live, I sent a note and suggested we meet for lunch somewhere. Jim and Ellen met us last week in Florence at a very good Italian Pizza joint. In fact, it was so good, that we returned with other friends later in the week. They both look the same and seem to still find life fascinating. We talked about our moms, of course, since each will turn 90 this year and both still live in the family home. We compared notes on what we know about the events and folks in North Branch and overall, treasured each others' company. Ellen took this pic and sent it to us. Hopefully, we will touch base again in MN this summer.
I had also contacted my Aunt Patti and Uncle Cal to see if they might be available one day and so we spent Saturday at their home in Rio Verde. Mike was amazed at the grandeur, detail, and sheer size of their home. They are wonderful hosts and we never were at loss for conversation. Patti and I exchanged details of our families while Cal and Mike talked military. Cal grilled hamburgers for lunch and we enjoyed a relaxing few hours with our extended family. Listening to my Uncle Cal is like listening to my dad (who has been gone 15 years and is still missed). Cal's stories of olden days, family history, and growing up in Nerstrand entertained both of us.
Mike took this picture by their pool.
When we did our Hickory Farms stint, we worked with a delightful couple from Minnesota, Craig and Roseann. We touched base again in January in Quartzite and they spent the last four days with us here in Casa Grande. Of course, being from MN, they are card players and so we learned a new card game (complete with a few swear words). We also played Bingo together and learned Pokeno (a game with lots of pennies exchanged). These folks are so easy to be with, that no matter what we do together, it is fun. Craig taught us a new way to do left over pizza... Mike will even eat it! They are now slowing heading to MN and we will see them again in the Lake Itasca area in September unless our paths cross sooner. They pull a trailer and tow a car - 60+ feet ...
I'll close with some of my "Roadside Collection" for April - The desert is sure beautiful when it blooms. These are actually wild Lupines that grow along the roadside - I have never seen them anywhere but "Up North".
The Ocotillo's red blooms are hard to spot, but they are there.
Until next time...
