Thanksgiving
Our Tucson friends, Bonnie and Barry, invited us to share Thanksgiving with them and they even asked us to stay overnight and go for a desert ride on Friday. We couldn't pass up that invitation!
We drove down to Saddlebrook around noon on Thursday and had some time to check out the views from their patio (that mountain you see is Mt. Lemon)
and look at Black Friday ads before the festivities got underway. (Bonnie and I made tentative plans to get up at 4 a.m. and hit the stores to buy me yet another computer... ) And after a glass of wine or two, Bonnie's brother and wife and a young friend from MN who goes to school in Phoenix arrived and it was time to get serious.
The table was beautifully set,
Bonnie and Sherri put the final touches on things,
Barry carved up the turkey (it was so good looking I wanted to get a picture of it coming out of the oven, but Barry whisked it away to be carved before I had a chance)
and we sat down to enjoy a feast! Bonnie and Barry outdid themselves; everything was homemade and tasted just like moms. Bonnie even served us, just like at moms and grandmas, before she joined us to enjoy the fruits of her labor.
The pumpkin pie, made by Denny this year, was even made from real pumpkin instead of the canned stuff - YUM!
After a very short night, Bonnie and I did get up at 4 to hit the stores at 5 a.m. It seems this was the first time my friend has even done this bit of Thanksgiving tradition - at least the lines weren't too long for her initial trek to Black Friday bargains. Yes, I did get a computer and I am proud to say I paid nearly $200 less than the others that malfunctioned... so far, so good!
We were home by 7 to wake up the boys. After breakfast, all four of us headed for the local thrift store to check out the bargains there and then to a farmer's market where I found a very nice sweatshirt at a very good price.
And then it was time for a reheated Thanksgiving dinner (I swear it tastes better the second day) and then a foray into quad country. I was a bit scared of some of the paths, but mainly just thrilled with the beautiful desert scenery. (As the Internet connection is spotty where we are right now, I will spare you more pictures of cactus...)
Before you know it, it was time to head for home. Many thanks to Bonnie and Barry for making our Thanksgiving Day a "family" event!
On Saturday, we headed towards Keith's place in Redlands, California where we had some work done on the motorhome on Monday. If you are ever in this area and need anything done on your motorhome, Redlands Truck Service is the place to go. I really wasn't paid for that advertisement; it is just a good place to do business.
We are now in the San Diego area and getting ready for our first cruise. I'll try to get a post done before we head for the Mexican Riviera on December 10th. Hopefully, The Spirit has a better cruise than The Splendor.
