Part 11 - Canyonlands National Park

Although we definitely decided we would return to Arches, we decided to check out Canyonlands on our second day around Moab, Utah. This park did not disappoint us.

Our first stop was Newspaper Rock. Never have I seen so much Indian Writing in such a condensed area.

And there were very tiny flowers growing - not a small feat since it was so cold and windy.

Another mountain range was evident in the distance.

Gosh, why would Mike want me to take this picture...

The trek to the next site took us literally over rocks...

This storage container was used in the 1200's by the Native Americans who lived and raised crops here in the area.

If you look closely, you can see the handprints left on the wall so many years ago. It was a certain kind of "signature" for the natives.

The area of the park in which we spent this first day was called "The Needles" - you can ure tell why.

On top of one bluff, I found this sand sculpture; made by nature, not by man.

Under one overhang, there was an old cowboy's hangout; the park authenicated that it really had been used by some of the old train robbers.

This is our motorhome as it looked on top the hill, in the Passport America campground. It was a beautiful spot to return to each evening.
