Cataract is the Word of the Day

cat·a·ract
noun
1.
a descent of water over a steep surface; a waterfall, especially one of considerable size.
2.
any furious rush or downpour of water; deluge.

Perhaps you, like me, thought that "cataract" was an eye problem. Well, today I found out that we were wrong!

Bright and early this morning we visited a church that we can see from our campsite in the casino parking lot. It had amazing stained glass windows,

and steeples reaching high into the sky,

and it had a very interesting name.
I had seen the word "cataract" used somewhere else in literature I read in the last few days but really didn't pay much attention. When I returned home today the dictionary was retrieved. What an appropriate and beautiful name for this church.

These pictures of cataracts (just doesn't sound right, does it) were taken from the Canadian side of Niagara Falls.

American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls with "our casino" behind.
The whole of Horseshoe Falls.

An up close and personal look at the water rushing over the rocky ledge.

The colors are so pure and vibrant

and the mist and spray is always there.

This is my favorite picture of the day... well one of them. Rainbow bridge, the American and Bridal Veil Falls seen through the mist of the morning.

Another of my favorite shots. With the ever present mist, it is no wonder the hanging plants are so lush on the lightpoles.

Immaculate landscaping leading to the walkway along the river.

The view of all three falls from the bridge returning to the U.S.
