The Creatures of Navajo Lake

Yesterday, we packed up the boat and "stuff" - we seem to have a lot of stuff this year - and headed further south.  It was time - I lost a couple of plants one night when we had a frost.  We are now by Truth or Consequences (yes, the town is named after the TV show) at Elephant Butte State Park.  You will hear much more about this area at a later time.

Since we were at Navajo Lake for a whole month, I have lots and lots of pictures and want to share a few.  One of the "creatures" we saw was a crane... the rather young owners of this sail boat were taking it to Texas.  I watched for over an hour and they were no where near ready to hit the road when I snapped the last picture - long expensive process.

There were many of these "deep divers" but I could never get a good picture - they are really fast!

I enjoyed this strange creature who actually trolled with the anchor... you see, we lost many lures in one particular area and he thought maybe...  it was fun, but we still have empty spots in the tackle box.

This is the area - I swear there is a "lure monster" that lurks beneath the surface... or is it just one of those trees...

These red heads were hanging out in a cove one of the last days we were on the lake.  Click to make this picture bigger - their hairdos are precious and I love how they seem to blend into their surroundings.

Our trolling motor found one of its own - wonder how long since it lost its boat...

This fellow seems to be holding up the rock all by himself.

Does this look like any picture you have ever seen before?

I fell in love with the twisted and tangled trees that line the shore - one of the trees gave up a branch for us.

In Francis Cove, there were all kinds of these things hanging on branches - ranger couldn't tell me what they were - anybody know?

There were some days when fish were scarce but you could always spot them in the rocks.

Time to leave this beautiful area, we will return in the spring.
