Part 1V - A Return to Canyonlands

We slept late on our fourth day in Moab and then decided to take a leisurely drive through another part of Canyonlands National Park. We didn't really think there would be a lot to see so we didn't even get there until almost noon. Once again we were greeted with magnificence. The canyons were so distinct and unusual. This is the Colorado River and the canyon is a result of its earliest ravages.

And close up, there was always something strange to observe.

One of our stops was at an arch of all things - seems we just can't get enough of arches. Mike really wanted to stand in the center but stopped when I kept yelling at him. He is still very much a risk taker!!!

Instead of just taking the normal road home, we found a "long cut" that put us on dirt roads and onto the floor of the canyon... eventually. There was one point when we went around a corner and Mike stopped and said, "Can you see the road?" - now that made me nervous!

The scenery was even more beautiful than it had been from above.
Still there were interestig shapes created by wind and erosion. This is the Colorado, a little closer this time.
On the canyon floor at sunset , the mountains were just glowing, sometimes almost pink and othertimes bright orange.

Then we were at water's edge ... and it was a good thing, it was 8 pm.
This day that started out slowly, ended up as one of the best in Moab. This is definitely a must see place. We will be back in years to come!
