Our Travels Begin ... Again

Last week we spent a few days at the St. Peter city park. It was a good location from which to enjoy family before we hit the road. We had a pizza supper, compliments of Janet and Terry, at Chris and Sara's new place, checked out Kaci and Amariah's new location and hugged them all farewell.
Another day we went to mom's place. We shared dinner together, I did some shopping and organizing for her, Mike did some stuff around the house and we talked alot. We all had tears in our eyes when we said our goodbyes.

And yet another day, we had supper with Brian and then we shared a breakfast with Tammy, Megan and Ashley. More hugs, more good conversation and more people to miss when we are gone.
We do have a wonderful life, and our familes really do understand our lifestyle... but there are some days when we both think of what a "normal" life might be like... Since the thought doesn't last too long, we are off again to see new regions and enjoy new opportunities.

Our first stop was SOUTH DAKOTA, our home state. We have never explored the section of the Missouri River known as Francis Case Lake so we headed there. It is south of the area that we usually fish in Pierre. Anyway, what a great location.

We stayed a couple of nights at Randall Creek campground. This was the view from our campsite. $14 a night for electric; a bargain for this view.

The park was sparsely populated which suited us just fine. We were located just below the Fort Randall dam and adjacent to the ruins of the old fort itself. This sign was spotted on a drive "up river". Once again, we are in the presence of eagles.

Even the mammoth, man made dam was picturesque. I enjoyed taking pictures at the old fort. This is a window in the chapel that has been partially restored. It was originally built in the mid 1800's when the fort was used to keep pioneers "safe from the Indians"... Take a look at the markings on three of the grave stones in the fort cemetary... (You may have to click on the picture to enlarge it for better reading.)

The temperatures were in the upper 70's and these wildflowers were in peek bloom alongs the banks of the river.

Mike enjoyed fishing in a couple of different spots.

Mainly, he just enjoyed!

This morning we left this wonderful area with a promise to ourselves that we will return (with the boat)!

Tonight we are in the small town of Holdrege, Nebraska in a $5 a night city campground. But that is not the best thing about the town. I always have thought of Nebraska as a "fly over state" but the Nebraska Prairie Museum has changed my mind. This is a town I recommend you find on your map and put on your "someday" list. More in the next post.
